Our Vision
Ibn ‘Ashur Centre exists to promote excellence and advancement in the study of the Quran through its own research, publishing and training programmes. We strive to raise the standard of discourse in Quranic Studies through cooperation with relevant institutions.
Our Brand
Ibn ‘Ashur Centre was founded in 2017 under the generic name of the Centre for Advanced Study of the Quran and its Interpretation (CASQI). This was later updated in honour of the renowned exegete and rector of Ez-Zitouna University in Tunisia, Muḥammad al-Ṭāhir Ibn ‘Āshūr (1879-1973), whose balance between traditionalism and creativity earned him the respect of scholars of every stripe.
The elements of our brand draw from the Zitouna Mosque to reflect this connection to the great imam who inspires our own approach to Quranic research.
The classic white dome of the mosque is represented at the heart of our logo. It also evokes the turbans traditionally worn by seekers of knowledge.
El-Zitouna Dome
This distinctive Maghrebi pattern is taken directly from the Zitouna minaret, which represents rootedness and points upwards to progress.
Minaret Pattern
The logo has the style of a stamp, even a gold standard, because Ibn ‘Ashur Centre aims to assure partners and public of high quality research.
Stamp of Assurance
The dome’s lines are transformed into enlightening rays for the Academy. This evokes the Tanwir in the title of Ibn ‘Ashur’s commentary.
Sun Rays
The elements come together in our two logos to represent, respectively, a stamp of assurance, and a mission to take authentic knowledge with the world. The resemblance of the mosque’s facade to a bridge is also appropriate, as the Centre seeks to connect worlds of scholarship.
